CoCal Landscape is proud to offer smart technology to help Denver, CO businesses manage their irrigation systems. For more than 20 years, CoCal has been working hard to create commercial landscapes that are sustainable and easy to maintain. Now, we can help businesses, healthcare facilities, apartment complex managers, and HOAs save water and money with a smart irrigation management system called SmartLink.
The History Behind WaterRight
We developed the WaterRight division during the drought of 2002. That summer was a turning point for Colorado. The government took an active role in water management as an effort to conserve water for the common good of the citizens. Some of the water restrictions worked, and some didn't. CoCal decided to take an optimistic view of the problem. We chose to help our clients manage their water properly. We already knew about water management, and we offered our knowledge and skill to our clients under the coin of WaterRight.
What is SmartLink?
This technology keeps track of the local weather and your water usage. A SmartLink controller is installed on your irrigation system, and users access the SmartLink network with any device that connects to the internet. Not only does this make monitoring your water usage much easier than before, but it also gives you simple access to programming options.
Weathermatic's SmartLink system works in real-time, tracking your local weather. Based on the weather changes, the smart irrigation management system adjusts your water usage. For instance, if it rains an inch on Monday morning, the system will cancel the scheduled Monday evening watering. If you experience two weeks of hot, dry weather, SmartLink will automatically adjust your irrigation system to water more often so your landscape remains green and lush. The weather station on SmartLink makes weather-based changes to your watering schedule so you don't have to worry about adjusting it when it rains. If the temperature drops below freezing, the system automatically prevents watering.
The system controls watering schedules and also the zones that are being watered. You can avoid damage to areas of your landscape due to overwatering. When there is too much water, and run-off puddles on your parking lot, the low areas on your parking lot will start to decay and need costly repairs. That's wasting water and causing property damage! SmartLink ensures your landscape gets precisely the amount of moisture it needs, so there will be no run-off due to overwatering.
Users get remote access to the irrigation system's programming, which allows you to make changes or cancel the watering in case of emergency.

How Does SmartLink Save Money for Denver, Colorado Commercial Property Owners?
Conventional irrigation systems run on a schedule that does not take into account the local weather changes. Usually, they are programmed to water more than necessary to prevent the landscape from getting too dry. Weathermatic's SmartLink system automatically adjusts your watering times based on the weather, which saves a lot of water. Whereas a conventional irrigation system may water 20 to 60 percent more than necessary, the SmartLink system conserves that water, which pays off when it comes time to pay the water usage bill.
Right away, SmartLink can save you serious money. For some of our clients, water is one of their biggest expenses. We have seen companies save from 10 to 25 percent of their water expense. If a company normally spends $100,000 on water per year, that expense can be reduced by 25 percent. That's $25,000 saved due to smart irrigation management technology.
Besides water usage savings, monitoring your irrigation saves you costly repairs in the future. By not overwatering your hardscapes, concrete, and asphalt, you're preventing decay that would need to be fixed. Some commercial businesses have drainage systems with foundations that will start to crack or shift as excess water runs through them. Monitoring your water usage helps keep your property in good repair.
Maybe overwatering isn't your problem. In Denver, Colorado's hot, arid climate, some businesses could be underwatering. In that case, you're going to lose turf and plant material due to a lack of moisture. SmartLink solves that problem by ensuring your natural material gets the proper amount of water during the hot, dry seasons. You won't need to replant your landscape.
