A Colorado Minority-Owned Business

On September 27, 2021, CoCal Landscape was awarded certification as a Minority-owned Business Enterprise by The Mountain Plains Minority Supplier Development Council (MPMSDC). This certification acknowledges that CoCal is at least 51% minority-owned, managed, and controlled.

Company co-founder and president, Jesus (Chuy) Medrano was born in Chihuahua, Mexico. His early experiences as a businessman in Denver, Colorado made him acutely aware of the challenges faced by minority-owned businesses. Chuy grew up farming in Mexico, and naturally transitioned to landscaping when he moved to Colorado in the 1970s.

His knack for leadership was recognized early, and he was recruited to help train and motivate other Hispanic workers in various branches of the company he worked for. His experiences led him to become the first president of the National Hispanic Landscape Alliance, where he helped to recruit and support Hispanic-Americans with an interest in the landscaping industry. Throughout his career, Chuy has advocated for Hispanic workers in the landscaping industry and routinely offered advice to business partners about working with Hispanic-owned businesses.

Today, with 275 employees, CoCal Landscape is a highly successful minority-owned business that takes every opportunity to give back to the community. As a certified minority-owned business, CoCal can continue to grow and establish opportunities to support Hispanic-American businesses.
