Manage Your Water Usage in Denver, Colorado with CoCal's WaterRight Department
The CoCal crew works hard to create beautiful, sustainable landscapes for commercial properties in and around Denver. A big part of making a landscape sustainable is conserving water. Our hot and dry summers require most businesses to use irrigation systems to keep their landscapes fresh and healthy. Monitoring those irrigation systems can be tricky. It's easy to overwater and get mud, water run-off, and broken hardscapes and sidewalks. On the other hand, too little irrigation will leave your turf and plants parched and needing fresh replacements. Either scenario is costly. How do you get to the sweet spot where you are watering your turf and plants often enough to be healthy but also not wasting water? That's where the CoCal WaterRight division comes in.
The History Behind WaterRight
We developed the WaterRight division during the drought of 2002. That summer was a turning point for Colorado. The government took an active role in water management as an effort to conserve water for the common good of the citizens. Some of the water restrictions worked, and some didn't. CoCal decided to take an optimistic view of the problem. We chose to help our clients manage their water properly. We already knew about water management, and we offered our knowledge and skill to our clients under the coin of WaterRight.
The Way the WaterRight Division Works for Commercial Properties
WaterRight is a service we offer through our landscape maintenance plans. When a client contracts CoCal to maintain their landscape, that company gets a full range of services, including:
- Lawn mowing, edging and trimming
- Grass aeration and fertilizer treatments
- Spring and fall cleanups
- Safety pruning
- Snow removal and ice management
- Irrigation checks and repairs through our WaterRight department
Water management is just as important as the rest of your maintenance tasks because without good water management practices in place, your landscape will suffer.
First, the WaterRight team services your irrigation system. We make sure your system is operating correctly and efficiently. If repairs are needed, we'll make those right away. If we think your system is getting old and needs to be replaced, we'll help you decide what to replace it with. Similarly, we'll propose upgrades if we think you could benefit from them. Our team has all the experience necessary to install new irrigation systems and get them running for the best water management.
The second aspect of WaterRight is water management. We analyze your property's water usage. Through this detailed analysis, we can recommend ways to cut down on your water usage, decrease your water expenses, and create a more sustainable landscape. While some of this analysis is done through good old-fashioned hard work, we also employ the use of smart technology.

Smart Technology Gives You an Edge in Water Management
Technology is only as smart as the people who program it, right? Well, our WaterRight Management Team uses some technology that has been programmed by people who understand the challenges of water management. Many companies are using smart technology with their irrigation systems, such as rain sensors, moisture sensors, and flow sensors. Why? Because a lot of people realize that water is our most valuable resource. Smart technology that can help conserve water is worth having.
An Overview of Weathermatic's SmartLink Technology
The CoCal WaterRight team installs Weathermatic's SmartLink technology to your irrigation system. SmartLink then gives the CoCal team and the property manager access to every element of your irrigation system through a cloud-based network. You'll be able to control and monitor your water usage from your phone. Here are a few ways SmartLink can save you money and water:
- Weather-based scheduling for your sprinklers. SmartLink looks at local weather changes and makes automatic changes to your watering schedule based on how much water your landscape needs. Did it rain recently? SmartLink will make sure your irrigation system doesn't operate.
- Reduces damage to hardscapes, concrete, and asphalt caused by overwatering. When water runs into a low area of your sidewalks or parking lot, eventually, that water is going to decay the hardscape. If you don't overwater, you don't have to repair a broken parking lot.
- Keeps your turf and plants healthy. The bright colors of your natural landscape add curb appeal to your property. If your landscape is not properly irrigated, it will die and need replacing. SmartLink gives your landscape the right amount of water for good health.
- Prevents freeze damage. If the temperatures drop below freezing, SmartLink automatically stops your sprinklers.
- Reduces liability. In an emergency, the property manager can remotely shut down the irrigation system from his or her phone.
- Provides real-time data that will help keep your irrigation system in good repair. If anything goes wrong with your irrigation system, you will know about it right away. The WaterRight team will quickly make the necessary repairs to get you back on the right track.
